A few more tips to help you continue your quest for ancestors. Having listed all your known relatives, now is the time to ask them some questions. Some may be reluctant to do so, but they do so in the end. Do not leave it until it is too late.

Ask them to show you copies of birth, marriage and death certificates, take copies if you can, if not write down all the information on them.

Certificates can be very informative – birth certificates give names of both parents and maiden name of mother. Marriage certificates give the names of bride and groom’s fathers and those of witnesses, who are often relatives of the couple marrying. Add these details to your family tree. Further information on other research sources at a later date.

Further information about the above from Frank Long 850863.
