Working Men's Club
After my last article (in the July issue) I have an
apology to make. The “confirmed” date of August 3rd for our
trip to Thorpe Park was cancelled due to insufficient interest from members.
I realise that the trip was always going to be quite expensive, and this
probably had a bearing on the lack of support. So instead of Thorpe Park,
we went to Brighton. Not on the 3rd but the 9th. I began to wonder why
the date was changed until the coach pulled up on the esplanade and we
were greeted by the formation of the procession for the “Gay Mardi
Gras”. I think the organiser of this trip has some questions to
answer!!
We’ve had a reasonable response to our experimental
all-day opening on Thursdays and Fridays, and a decision will be made
soon as to whether to continue, or even extend opening hours all week.
The garden area at the rear of the Club is still not
being used as much as it could be. We are allowed to use it for 28 days
each year, but so far this year it has been open less than ten days. As
we all know, the glorious weather we experienced this summer doesn’t
happen very often and it would be nice to make the best of the rest of
the year’s sunshine.
September events at the Club include an adults
only quiz night on the 6th and Toni Lee, a female vocalist on the 20th,
so come along and join the fun.
