the opening of our new Community Centre and also our first meeting in
our new home! Come along and join us. It would be lovely to see some new
faces. The meeting commences at 7.30pm and will be a social gathering
– an ideal time to get chatting and getting to know us all.
We have an exciting and interesting programme for this
year starting with a Quiz in the Community Centre on Saturday 21st February.
Tickets are priced at £5, each of which includes a ‘Ploughman’s’
(bring your own drinks).
For further details call Mary Davies on 01622 858522.

As you probably know, we have a guest speaker
each month and for our July meeting, Mr Peter Dawson gave us a most interesting
talk, with a slide show, of ‘Childhood Memories of Chatham’.
It was principally concerned with the 1930s and
how childhood differed then to the lives of a modern-day generation. Life
was so simple then, and in some aspects, much happier. With no televisions,
computers etc and very little money, children made their own entertainment.
You could go off for the day fishing with a sandwich and a bottle of “pop”,
enjoy roaming the countryside and coming home just in time for tea. Regrettably,
nowadays we are unable to let our children roam at will as we once did
– but my, how we enjoyed our childhood freedom!
We next meet on the 11th September at 7.30 pm
in the village hall. Although there isn’t a speaker this month,
we will enjoy a social gathering. Its quite nice, once in a while, to
just sit around nattering and catching up on everything that members have
been doing during the summer months. We welcome new members.
