GDC School of Dancing, Lenham

Lenham is not just any old village; it has its special occasions and Tuesday 22nd July was just such an event at GDC School of Dancing Studio. It was an opportunity for Karen and Antony Day, the proprietors of the dancing studio to say ‘thank you’ to all their pupils and to their major sponsor, Kevin Foster.

Kevin Foster, principal of the International KF Syndicate, is a local philanthropist and joined in the fun to make a presentation of £8,000 to the dance school, part of which has been spent on very distinctive black and yellow jackets for all GDC pupils to wear when attending dance events. KF Syndicate has also given support to Maidstone Football Club, Gore Cricket Club, Great Ormond Street Hospital, as well as support to the snooker world.

It was a happy and vibrant occasion, with all the girls in their brightly hued dance dresses and boys in their tails and tuxes!

Karen and Antony also gave us the good news that after a two-year provisional licence, GDC Dance School has now been granted full planning permission with a full licence! So its full steam ahead!

The young people gave demonstrations of their dancing abilities, which were very impressive and enthusiastic. In thanking her pupils, Karen said, “Their hard work and dedication had helped to make GDC the third largest competing dance school in Kent”. They had recently attained their best results ever in a competition against six other schools, where they gained 21 first places. Furthermore, they had the first three places in most of the finals in which they competed – an outstanding result.

Karen and Antony believe that “dancing is fun, sociable and helps both adults and children to develop self confidence, posture and gain a sense of achievement.”GDC teaches Modern Ballroom, Latin American and Disco and holds regular medal tests throughout the year, as members of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing.

Karen and Antony welcome all ages from tots to the not so young. Even tots can learn the very basics of dancing. GDC pupils not only come from Lenham but, indeed, from as far afield as Maidstone, Ashford, Headcorn and Faversham If you, as an adult would like to learn the fundamentals of dancing or improve your perhaps rusty skills, to meet people and have fun,

You can contact GDC on the internet – www.graftydanceclub.fsnet.co.uk,

by telephone on 01622 850800 or just call in – they are located behind Lenham Ironmongers in the Faversham Road.
